Terms of use

Last updated 8 September 2026.

These terms govern your use of our website, your customer portal and the Betts Insurance mobile app. By using them you accept these terms. They do not replace your insurance policy: what is covered, what is excluded and what you must do are set out in your policy wording, schedule and certificate, and if there is ever a difference between those documents and this page, those documents govern.

Who we are

The Betts Insurance Limited, 7 Scan Drive, Off Spur Road, Freetown, Sierra Leone, licensed by the Sierra Leone Insurance Commission (SLICOM), licence number IC021.

Who may use the service

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a contract. You may buy cover for property or a vehicle you own or are responsible for, and for people you are entitled to insure. If you are acting for a company you confirm you are authorised to do so.

Your account

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address or telephone number. There is no password. That means your account is only as safe as your email account and your phone, so keep both secure and never pass a code to anybody, including anybody claiming to be from The Betts Insurance. We will never ask you for a sign-in code. Tell us at once if you think somebody else has reached your account.

You can close your account yourself at any time under Profile. See deleting your account.

Quotes

A quote is based entirely on the information you give us and is valid until the date shown on it. It is an offer to insure on those facts. If the facts are wrong or incomplete, the quote and any cover bought on it may be affected, so please check your answers before you buy. You must take reasonable care to answer our questions honestly and completely.

Buying cover

Cover begins on the start date shown on your schedule and certificate, and not before, and only once the premium has been paid in full. Your policy documents are produced in your portal and in the app, and we email you when they are ready. Please read them and tell us at once if anything is wrong.

Your Betts wallet

The wallet holds money you have paid in so that you can buy cover, and money we have paid you, such as a claim settlement. It is a record of what we owe you, held for the purpose of your insurance with us. It is not a bank account, it is not a savings product, it earns no interest, and it is not covered by any deposit protection scheme. You may withdraw your balance to your mobile money account or to a bank account at any time.

Paying and being paid

Payments in and out are handled for us by Monime, and are subject to the limits and charges of your mobile money operator or bank. We show any charge before you confirm. We do not see or store your mobile money PIN or your bank password. If a payment fails, the money is returned to where it came from. Refunds due to you are paid into your wallet, from which you may withdraw them.

Claims

Notify a claim as soon as you can through the app, your portal, by telephone or in person, and give us the information and documents we ask for. When a claim is approved we issue a discharge voucher, which sets out the amount we will pay in full settlement. When you accept it, the money is placed in your wallet, and you may then withdraw it. Accepting a discharge voucher settles that claim.

Renewal and cancellation

We will tell you before a policy is due to expire, unless you have turned those reminders off. You may renew in the app or portal. You may ask to cancel a policy at any time; what you get back, if anything, is governed by your policy wording. We may cancel a policy only as that wording allows.

Agents, brokers and Betts Kompin

If somebody introduced you to us, you may enter their number when you buy so that they can look after your business. Doing so lets them see and service your policy and lets us pay them their commission. Your premium is the same either way.

Using the service properly

Please use these services only for your own insurance business with us. Do not try to get into anybody else’s account, do not interfere with the service or test its security without our written permission, do not use it to break the law, and do not give us information that is false. We may suspend an account we reasonably believe is being used dishonestly, and we will tell you why.

Availability

We work to keep the service running at all times, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable, for example during maintenance or if a network or a supplier fails. If you cannot reach us online, telephone +232 33 918 918 or +232 71 918 918, or come to our office. Being unable to reach the app does not change the cover you hold or the time limits in your policy.

Our content

The design, text, logos and software of these services belong to The Betts Insurance Limited or our licensors. Your policy documents are yours to keep and use.

Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for meeting our obligations under your insurance policy and for handling your business with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss caused by something outside our reasonable control, or for a fault in your own device or network. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that cannot be limited by law, including our obligations as a licensed insurer, and nothing here affects your rights under your policy.

Complaints

If something has gone wrong, please tell us. Our complaints procedure explains how we handle it and how long we take. You may take a complaint to SLICOM at any time, free of charge.

Changes

We may change these terms, for example when we add a feature or when the law changes. The current version is always on this page with the date it was last updated. If a change matters to you we will tell you directly.

Law

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of Sierra Leone, and the courts of Sierra Leone have jurisdiction.
